TN CM Stalin inaugurates Rs 1882 cr Sify Technologies Data center campus
Sify Infinit Spaces Ltd., a prominent Indian data center
provider, has announced the inauguration of an AI-ready data center campus in
Chennai which will have an eventual capacity of 130 MW. It is also the only
data center in India with an on-site open cable landing station.
In a press
release the company revealed that the facility will serve as a critical enabler
for AI workloads and digital-first enterprises, providing scalable
infrastructure and high-performance computing capabilities. Located in the
upcoming technology hub of Siruseri, the facility was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu
Chief Minister Thiru M. K. Stalin, in the presence of Hon’ble Minister for
Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Thiru T. M. Anbarasan and Hon’ble Minister
for Industries, Investment promotion & Commerce, Dr. T.R.B. Rajaa.
“With our cumulative investment now crossing ₹10,000 crore from
an initial commitment of ₹2,500 crore, we are not only building digital
infrastructure but also creating an ecosystem of opportunity,” said Raju Vegesna,
Chairman & Managing Director, Sify Technologies Ltd., adding, “We envision
generating employment for 10,000 people—direct and indirect— as this facility
ramps up. This data center isn’t just infrastructure—it’s a strategic digital
gateway for enterprises and governments aiming to harness AI, cloud, and
high-speed data solutions.”
The company
further said that this platinum-rated Green Data Center is recognized with four
ratings from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), and that Sify aspires to
power the Siruseri data center entirely with renewable energy and manage it
using sustainable building management practices.
Sify, that provided India’s first Indian private ISP in 1998,
went on to become a Fortune 500 company. It has been listed on NASDAQ since
1999, only the second such Indian company. Today, Sify’s operations are in the
digital transformation space, and its global service capabilities span data
center, cloud, networks, security and digital services. Sify has a total of 11
data centers located in NOIDA, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Kolkata, and
Chennai. They serve a wide variety of customers hailing from sectors as diverse
as banking, healthcare, social media, FMCG and OTT.
Over the last
few months the company has revealed ambitious growth plans for India. Just
recently, it announced the launch of its AI-Hub data center in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
The facility, located within the HCL IT City campus on Sultanpur Road, will be
developed in four phases, with the first phase set to become operational by
June 2025.
