Sandhya Devanathan Joins OpenAI As VP, Southeast Asia And Australia

Sandhya Devanathan is set to join OpenAI as Vice President, Southeast Asia and Australia, according to e4m.     The appointment also marks Devanathan'sdecade at Meta, where she most recently served as Vice President and Head – India and Southeast Asia.Her appointment comes as OpenAI continues to expand its presence across international markets and strengthen its regional leadership.

Devanathan moved on from Meta earlier this month after spending more than 10 years with the company.Announcing her departure, she said she would take a short break before moving into her next professional chapter and indicated that she would share details of her next move subsequently.

She joined Meta in 2016, initially helping build the company's Singapore and Vietnam businesses and teams, while also working on Meta's e-commerce initiatives in Southeast Asia.

In 2020, Devanathan moved to lead Gaming for APAC, one of Meta's largest global verticals.During her tenure, she also focused on developing women leaders and supporting diversity initiatives across the organisation.

Her experience at Meta covered multiple markets and business areas, giving her exposure to technology, digital businesses and regional growth strategies across Asia Pacific.

Devanathan was appointed Vice President of Meta India in 2022, where she focused on aligning the organisation's business and revenue priorities with the needs of its partners and clients.

She was also responsible for supporting Meta's long-term growth and business priorities in India.Before joining Meta, Devanathan built an international career spanning banking, payments and technology, bringing more than two decades of business leadership experience.

At OpenAI, Devanathan will take on responsibility for Southeast Asia and Australia, adding a regional leadership mandate to her experience across India and the wider Asia Pacific market.

She will work alongside OpenAI's regional leadership as the company continues to expand its presence across markets in the region.

The appointment also marks Devanathan's transition from a senior leadership role at a major social technology company to an AI-focused organisation as adoption of artificial intelligence accelerates across businesses and markets.
