Maharashtra leads India’s AI-powered cybercrime fight
MahaCrimeOS AI—a
pioneering, AI and Azure powered platform developed
by CyberEye, innovators in cutting-edge technologies of Cyber
Security & IoT and a Partner ISV of Microsoft, with the Maharashtra
Government’s Special Purpose Vehicle MARVEL, and Microsoft India Development Centre (IDC)—was unveiled at the Microsoft AI Tour in Mumbai. The announcement was made by Microsoft Chairman and
CEO Satya Nadella, who also met with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to discuss the future of digital safety and AI-driven
governance in the state. Currently live in 23 Nagpur police
stations, MahaCrimeOS AI was recognised by Chief Minister Fadnavis, who proposed its future
expansion to all 1,100 police stations across Maharashtra.
Microsoft, in collaboration with the Maharashtra
Government and its MARVEL initiative, is leveraging next-generation
AI to tackle the new wave of complex and
evolving cybercrimes —fast-tracking India’s fight against cybercrime.
Importantly, MahaCrimeOS AI is designed to augment officers
with AI tools so they can resolve cases faster and more efficiently, combining
human expertise with responsible innovation. This initiative empowers
law enforcement to accelerate cybercrime investigations and sets a new
benchmark for digital safety in India, as the country faces a surge in cybercrime with over 3.6 million incidents
reported in 2024 as per National
Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.
Devendra Fadnavis, Chief
Minister of Maharashtra, said: “Ethical and
responsible AI for public good is our core motto. AI has the power to transform
by improving efficiency, enhancing quality of life, and delivering true ease of
living for every citizen. The vision behind creating MARVEL is to build a
platform that partners with global deep-technology leaders to develop AI copilots
that can fundamentally transform the way we govern. Our collaboration with
Microsoft began with solving complex cybercrime challenges, but its potential
is far greater. AI today touches every sphere of human activity, from
healthcare and agriculture to industry and governance and we intend to harness
this power responsibly to create a more effective, citizen centric state.”
MahaCrimeOS AI is built on Microsoft Azure
OpenAI Service and Microsoft Foundry, integrating advanced AI assistants, automated workflows, and
secure cloud infrastructure. The platform enables instant case creation, multilingual data extraction, and contextual
legal assistance—reducing manual effort and allowing officers to focus on solving
complex cybercrimes. With
built-in access to India’s criminal laws through integrated AI RAG and
open-source intelligence, MahaCrimeOS AI enables investigators to
link cases, analyse digital evidence, and respond to threats more quickly and
effectively. The Microsoft India Development Center (IDC) worked closely
with CyberEye and MARVEL to tailor the solution for real-world
policing needs, standardizing investigation workflows and ensuring secure,
compliant deployment.
Puneet Chandok,
President, Microsoft India & South Asia, said: “AI is redefining the future of public safety, and
with MAHACrimeOS AI, we’re turning that vision into
reality. By combining the scale of Microsoft Azure
with cutting-edge AI capabilities, we’re empowering every
officer in Maharashtra to investigate faster, smarter, and more securely. This
is not just about technology—it’s about building trust, protecting
citizens, and setting a new benchmark for digital safety in India.”
The
proposed statewide expansion—championed by Chief Minister Devendra
Fadnavis—will enable police stations across Maharashtra to digitally register
and investigate cybercrimes using standardized, AI-powered workflows.
Harssh Poddar,
Superintendent of Police, Nagpur Rural and CEO of MARVEL, said: “MahaCrimeOS AI is redefining how we fight
cybercrime—turning complexity into clarity and speed. This platform is not just
about faster investigations; it’s about building trust, setting new standards
for governance, and creating a model that can scale across India.”
Ram Ganesh, Founder and
CEO, CyberEye, said: “Our collaboration with Microsoft
and MARVEL has enabled us to empower cutting edge officers
even in remote parts of the state to solve complex cybercrime investigations
with ease and reduced workloads. By leveraging Microsoft’s Technology
capabilities, we are helping law enforcement create India’s digital
shield—empowering them to protect citizens faster and with confidence.”
The
launch of MahaCrimeOS AI marks a significant step toward realizing
India’s vision of a digitally secure society. Microsoft, Maharashtra
Government, MARVEL, CyberEye, and IDC remain committed to advancing
digital safety and responsible AI adoption across India empowering law
enforcement and supporting the government’s vision for a secure, digitally
empowered nation.
